Tour de France 2026: why choose technical socks suited to your sport?
Every summer, the Tour de France captivates cycling enthusiasts. For its 113th edition, from July 4 to 26, 2026, the Grande Boucle will even start in Barcelona before reaching the mythical passes of the Pyrenees and the Alps. From country roads to legendary climbs, the world's greatest riders push their limits in front of millions of spectators.
But behind every performance lies a multitude of details. The choice of bike, of course, but also the equipment that accompanies the effort. Among them, technical socks often occupy an underestimated place.
At Maison Broussaud, we have developed a range of sports socks made in France to support athletes in all their adventures, whether cycling, running or hiking. Our goal is simple: combine technicality, comfort and durability.
Why are socks essential for cycling?
When spending several hours on a bike, every detail counts. A poorly placed seam, poor sweat wicking, or insufficient support can quickly turn an enjoyable ride into real discomfort.
Cycling socks have been specifically designed to meet these constraints: offer precise foot support while remaining light and breathable. The models developed by Maison Broussaud incorporate slight compression, reinforcements at the heels and toes, as well as a structure that promotes moisture wicking. This technicality limits chafing, improves comfort during effort and supports the cyclist over long distances.
What sock height to choose for cycling?
This is one of the most frequent questions among cyclists. There are generally three heights: ankle socks, mid-calf, and high socks. Today, mid-calf to high socks have become standard on the road: they protect the skin from chafing, promote good support, and even contribute to aerodynamics on fast rides.
Good to know: for competition, the Union Cycliste Internationale regulates sock height, which must not exceed the halfway point between the ankle and the knee. In practice, a mid-calf height remains the best compromise between comfort, performance, and style, which is precisely the spirit of the Broussaud Sport models.
Technicality designed for all athletes
A sports sock is not just a simple accessory: it constitutes a real interface between the foot and the shoe. To meet the demands of athletes, our models are designed with targeted support zones, materials that promote breathability, and reinforcements placed on the most stressed areas. Every detail is studied to accompany movement and improve comfort during exertion. This approach is found throughout the Broussaud Sport range, whatever the playground.
Which socks to choose for running?
Running has enjoyed growing success for several years. Road running, trail running, jogging in nature or preparing for a half-marathon: each practice imposes its own constraints.
Running socks must offer excellent support to limit foot movement in the shoe, while ensuring good moisture management to prevent blisters. The models in our Sport collection have been designed to support runners during their training and competitions. Runners often focus their attention on their shoes and sometimes forget that the quality of their socks plays an essential role in comfort, mile after mile.
Which socks for hiking?
Sunny days also mean escape. Coastal paths, forest trails or mountain hikes offer the opportunity to take your time and reconnect with nature. For these long hours of walking, foot comfort becomes essential.
Our hiking socks are designed with a terry sole for extra cushioning, as well as reinforcements on the areas most exposed to wear. The merino wool models maintain a pleasant temperature whatever the conditions, while regulating humidity. They are available in short and high versions, depending on preferences. The result: more comfort over long distances and better foot protection throughout the hike.
